The Development Wheels™ concept

The Development Wheels™ concept was established in 2009. The approach started with the production of a birth to five parenting support wheel in partnership with Early Years, Childcare and Family Support practitioners and authors within a local government agency.

From there the Early Years and Childcare Publishing Partnership (EYCPP) was developed as an umbrella organisation to further develop the initiative and build the format under the Development Wheels brand. In 2012, a second brand, Early Years Developmentors™, was created to produce practical usable information resources that use individual fictional fun characters to take parents, carers and children through a range of early years subjects. These subjects include toilet learning, feeding toddlers and oral care. The materials/resources include play-mats, scribble pads and small cube boxes.

A second partnership, The Developmental Resources Publishing Partnership, was established in 2014 as further titles in the Development Wheel range were produced. Since that time the concept has become established and the partnerships have so far produced 26 titles under the Development Wheels™ brand.

The two partnerships consists of all of the authors and specialists involved in the writing and production of these unique, easy to use resources. Some are private authors, some are from private organisations working within these sectors and some of the partners are from specialist government agencies working within these sectors. The partnerships continues to expand as the portfolio of Development Wheel titles and other resources continues to grow.

Development Wheels™ are produced and published by KMMD, who act as managing partners on behalf of the partnership. KMMD often also takes the role of co-ordinators in the production of each title. Once initially produced, KMMD markets each Development Wheel title for the partnership in order to meet the needs of the sectors for which the concept supports.

This is very much a partnership approach that is about doing something different to produce unique publications for the early years, childcare, health, education and family support sectors. The partnerships ensure these resources are easy to use and made available at the cheapest possible cost in order to support these sectors and the dedicated people who work within them.

For this reason, KMMD owns the intellectual property (IP) for the concept, design and trademarks™ of Development Wheels™ within the sectors they support (early years, childcare, health, education and family support services), whilst it operates the Development Wheels™ brand and production for the partnerships. All Development Wheels™ are protected under copyright© and the brand and conceptual approach has trademarks™ for protection under UK law. This enables the partnerships to continue their work in this way, producing cost-effective, unique resources to support the early years, childcare, health, education and family support sectors.
